THE DECOTTOPIA

Decottopia is a precious method of processing medicinal plants and transforming them into a liquid preparation through a centuries-old tradition. Absolutely free of alcohol, sugar and preservatives, if stored in a cool place, these decocting-pyric products are capable of maintaining their properties intact for up to a month after opening.

Just how are these products obtained?
Take at least ten medicinal herbs, either wild or organically grown, whose beneficial effects will be heightened through synergy. Extract the active principles using gentle procedures such as infusion, maceration and decoction. Lastly, concentrate the extracted material in liquid form through a process allowing its conservation without resorting to alcohol, sugar or preservatives.

What could be easier?
This completely natural and highly effective procedure is actually a secret method practised by herbalists and jealously guarded by Balestra & Mech, after being handed down through the generations.

The origins of Decottopia go back to the traditions of a Protestant minority living in the Langhe hills of Piedmont in Italy. Having eventually become the heritage of a single family of herbalists, since 1911 the Decottopia formula has been the basis for all the preparations made by Balestra & Mech.

Decottopia is not only an original method for processing and preserving but also an an expert way of blending the therapeutic properties of various herbs (up to thirty in the same product) in a synergetic process that is the fruit of centuries of experience. While in the past this experience was applied to a limited variety of European-origin herbs, Balestra & Mech has now skilfully refined and widened its selection to include hundreds of plants, some of exotic origin, whose properties are heightened by the decocting-pyric process.

The Balestra & Mech production features a product, Amaro Natalino (Natalino Bitter) whose composition has remained unaltered for almost a century. Alongside this product, a new line of decocted-pyric products has been progressively developed to offer a greater variety of herbs selected for a pleasanter taste and a higher concentration of extracts: the Dolce Concentrate Line, in which the typical decocted-pyric properties refined over time are applied to particularly effective and often rare active principles and substances, such as the Alginic acid contained in Durvillea Antarctica. Complimented and supported by nineteen medicinal herbs, this algae gives rise to the famous Balestra & Mech Depurativo Antartico..
